following up the scorching debut release another night, deep&disco recordings sidesteps the sophomore slump with elisco, an infectious electro-funk groover that both cements the labels commitment to quality and expands their musical range.
a chunky nu-disco track with hints of metro area and a catchy vocal hook, the seeds of elisco were planted in the early 2000s when label founder jkriv and lou teti were sharing a loft space in williamsburg, brooklyn. after an afternoon of cowbells and synths, the skeleton of the track had its shape, and their other roomates girlfriend was enlisted to sing the hook. she had no singing experience (or rhythmic sense) to speak of, but somehow it all worked and elisco was born! although its always been a personal favorite of the producer duo, the song remained shelved for almost 7 years until they dusted it off in early 2011 and readied it for release on the newly minted deep&disco recordings.
providing remixes for the vinyl release are the legendary leftside wobble, who turns in an extended and bpm-d-up version quite true to the original, taking the machine vibes to the next level with added loops and fx. brightons alphabet city brings the disco-boogie sensibility to the package with a deep mix that features jkriv on live bass, and whiskey disco regular sleazy mcqueen rounds it out with an indie dance stomper.

>living it out< – perhaps the most unabashedly danceable song on janine >planningtorock< rostrons dfa debut album w – comes on (that is to say, seduces) in just the right ways. the song is all addictive disco, with synthesized string skitterings and rostrons voice purring out (she sounds like a futuristic eartha kitt here) a perfect melody that somehow gets even better at the chorus. its pure pleasure upsurge from beat-driven start to pizzicatto end, the kind of song that lets you know that, amidst rostrons many musical idiosyncracies, included is the ability to write a song that simply drags you out onto the dancefloor

from the very outset, the m.c.d.e. remix of shit robots >answering machine< picks up in a completely different realm from marcus lambkins original, which appears on his 2010 debut, from the cradle to the rave. the stuttgart-based producer has replaced janine >planningtorock< rostrons slowly rising vocal opener with outerspace emanations that fade as they drift into a constellation of wide house grooves and deep bass. rostrons own pizzo remix is up next, and in (a)typical fashion, she takes the song and shifts its mood by clearing away the dancier elements of its predecessor in favor of a foundation of strings in every form: plucked pizzicato notes, low cellos tones, and high pitched violins that flit through. last up is another rostron creation, the whisper remix, which actually outpaces lambkins version in bpm, but is lighter all the same. here, she uses synths almost as a wash of white noise – a whisper, if you will – and only drops heavier vocals here and there along the songs rustling path.

a side >under< from evol intent featuring vocals from singer/song writer jackie b. this dubstep track is dark, sexy, melodic, and poppy, with a bass riff and drums that encourages you to urgently to hit the dance floor, and shake your ass. the vocals are sexy and consistent. she reminds me of esthero in how she can make underground production sound so polished. yet she can take you places emotionally because she makes intelligent choices her vocal tonality. the production is dark, and sounds like a eerie episode of a twin peaks score. you will be hearing lots more music from her really soon. she is also a great producer as well. nicole atkins (born october 1, 1978) is an american singer-songwriter best known for her work with the band nicole atkins & the sea. her sound is known for its mix of traditional vocal styles and introspective lyrics. she has been compared to roy orbison and singers from the brill building era.

pursuit grooves releases her solo full length cd entitled >frantically hopeful< this summer on tectonic. the album continues rhythmically where last years >fox trot mannerisms< ep left off, but launches into a different head space with lyrics touching on current affairs and technological dependency. juggling all angles from production, songwriting, mcing and singing, pursuit grooves continues what she does best, fusing elements of hip hop, house and broken beats with sensual melodies and vocals. preceeding the release of the the cd-only 11 track set is this limited run vinyl ep, presenting six of the album’s more floor-friendly tunes.

this summer heidi brings her jackathon concept to a new physical format! the vinyl release features four exclusive tracks from soul clap, deetron, mathias kaden feat. gjaezon and lauhaus & kabale und liebe feat. wkd and is an irresistible mixture full of raw funk, shaking out those grooves until you can’t stop moving. heidi’s jackathon parties started october 2010 as a concept to bring some new life into the dancefloor. she invited some of her favourite artists and friends to play alongside her and to make the crowds bounce in berlin and then london. now the jackathon holds residencies in both cities, as well as paris, manchester and amsterdam, and it has brought the jack to many cities around the world. the jackathon is about energy and feeling and expressing something that lurks deep in the soul.

returning for a fourth ep on the label, berlins nick höppner continues his exploration into an ever-developing and rich production vocabulary. the rough goes with the smooth in perfect harmony on -a peck and pawn-. höppners unique sound design leads to a dense wash of sound sparkling with airy details and his characteristic sub bass subtleties, as the whole track gels together in a pushing modern house triumph. the spaced out and traveling -she parked herself- is a real fusion of the many influences behind the producers inspiration. bubbling percussion and pretty melodic structures fuse with a melting analog bassline in this high-tech and positive jam. with its heavy bass and late-night atmospheres -swivel flick- slows the pace in a warm, dubbed and droning thinkpiece that is just as cinematic as it is direct for the club. jostling just beneath the surface youll find a wealth of details that really shows off nicks talent and dedication to a non-standard groove

for more than a year, third ear and benjamin have been selecting tracks for this ep and for an album to follow later in the year. the wait was largely due to the track no kicks, which initially used a chuck d acapella, titled no. when third ear couldn?t get clearance for the acapella, we suggested to benjamin that we try and think of another poet/rapper who could produce an original lyric inspired by chuck d?s flow. after some thought we suggested diamondancer, who was inspired to write the lyric she performs here. stay hungry stay foolish and acidic sun are delicious and dreamy, with a fat pulsing groove. hello ammmerika is more urgent, pushing the groove constantly.
